Circus, Acro & Pole Classes for Kids in Prep - Grade 6

KIDS MEMBERSHIP CLASSES

Our after school classes follow the Victorian School Terms

The Lyra is a circular steel apparatus (resembling a hula hoop) suspended from the ceiling, on which circus artists may perform aerial acrobatics.

The first recorded Use of the Lyra was in 1893 and since then, performers have developed many graceful, dynamic,
and challenging acrobatic poses, spins, hangs, and transitions that can be performed above, below, or inside the Lyra. Spinning or swinging may also be incorporated into Lyra routines.

At Studio Exhilarate, we use single point steel Lyra’s, wrapped with a non stick tape for grip & protection.

Silks are relatively new type of aerial performance apparatus (c1990’s)
in which artists perform aerial acrobatics on a two long pieces of specialist fabric hung from a single point.

Performers climb the suspended fabric and use it to wrap, suspend, drop, swing, and spiral their bodies into and out of various positions.

The fabric may also be used to swing or spin while striking poses and figures.

At Studio Exhilarate, our silks are made from a strong, 2 way stretch fabric - similar in feel to lycra/nylon.

Pole combines elements of dance with acrobatics performed on a solid vertical pole and has its origins in an 800 year old Indian Sport, Mallakhamb.

The tricks that can be practised and performed (climbs, spins, inversions, hangs, drops & flips) mean that Pole is a great activity for developing muscular endurance, co-ordination, strength, flexibility, core stability and creativity.

At Studio Exhilarate, we have floor to ceiling poles in both steel and brass that can be configured in static or spin style.

The trapeze is a short horizontal bar hung by ropes, metal straps, or chains, from a ceiling support. It is an aerial apparatus commonly found in circus performances - with its origins traced to mid 19th Century France.

Trapeze acts may be static, swinging
or flying, and may be performed solo, double, triple or as a group act
Trapeze performers will create shapes, hang, do poses and tricks on, above and below the bar.

At Studio Exhilarate, we use a two point static trapeze, with nylon ropes.

Aerial Hammock is created when aerial silks are folded to make a loop. resulting in a connected apparatus similar to a swing.

Students climb, sit in and wrap the suspended fabric to perform various positions/tricks. Hammock routines may comprise of striking poses and figures and creating momentum to swing or spin. It is also used for aerial yoga, as it creates traction and can allow the body to open more gently than standard floor based yoga.

At Studio Exhilarate, our hammocks are made from a strong, 2 way stretch fabric - similar in feel to lycra/nylon.

Acro dance combines traditional dance with acrobatic elements to create a unique choreography, including leaps, twirls, tumbles, cartwheels, handstands and bends.

Acro is a popular style in amateur dance as well as in professional dance theatre and most notably, in Circus productions such as those by Cirque du Soleil. It is a dynamic style that builds stamina strength and flexibility.

At Studio Exhilarate, we use a range of matting to protect students while they master the acro moves to ensure minimal impact and maximum safety
